JOB DESCRIPTIONReports to: Associate Director of Music – Traditional WorshipPermanent Part-Time ExemptLast updated: 8/17/2026 General Description and Purpose:The pianist is an integral part of the Music and Worship Arts Ministry at Saxe Gotha PresbyterianChurch. This role is essential in providing musical support for the weekly Traditional Worshipservices, rehearsals, special presentations and events. The ideal candidate will possess a deepunderstanding of music, particularly in a church setting, and be able to enhance worship servicesthrough their musical abilities.Accountability:Director of Music and Worship ArtsAssociate Director of Music – Traditional WorshipProgram Support – Administrative Assistant for Music and Worship Arts MinistryWorship Ministry TeamDuties and Responsibilities:Maintain integrity in one’s own Christian life.Serve as pianist/accompanist Sunday morning for 8:15 rehearsal and during the 9:00 Traditional worship service. Music may include preludes, postludes, solos, offertories, hymns, and accompanying solo/choral anthems as assigned.Attend and provide piano accompaniment for weekly evening choir rehearsals.Collaborate with Associate Director of Music – Traditional Worship regarding music selections and service planning.Participate as instrumentalist/accompanist for seasonal Special Services (Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Christmas Cantata) and their respective rehearsals. Additional compensation will be given for special rehearsals and non-Sunday Special Services.Work with Associate Director of Music – Traditional Worship and Administrative Assistant for Music and Worship Arts Ministry for purchasing of any music resources and requests for piano maintenance.Right of first refusal for weddings and funerals. Additional compensation will be given for participation in these services.Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Music - Traditional Worship. Qualifications:Proficiency and experience in piano performance and accompaniment, preferably within a church or similar setting.Ability to sight-read music and accompany both congregational singing and choral ensembles.Knowledge of church hymns and liturgical music.Ability to collaborate effectively with choirs and other musicians.Reliable attendance, punctuality, and preparedness are essential functions of this role. Evaluation:The first three (3) months will be a probationary period to be evaluated by the Associate Director of Music – Traditional Worship.Annual evaluation will be conducted each year by the anniversary of your hire date by the Associate Director of Music – Traditional Worship. Terms of Employment:Weekly hours – Averaging 5-10 hours per week, actual time per week may vary depending on church calendar and seasonal liturgical events.Sunday morning for pre-service meeting/rehearsal and Traditional worship service.Weekday evening for Sanctuary Choir rehearsal. Qualifications:Proven experience as an organist, preferably within a church or similar settingKnowledge of church hymns, liturgical music, and traditional organ repertoireStrong sight-reading abilities and improvisational skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with choirs and other musiciansFamiliarity with organ maintenance and tuningProficient knowledge and operation of organ stopsReliable attendance, punctuality, and preparedness are essential functions of this role.
